What is Reiki?

In the simplest terms, Reiki is a Japanese system of relaxation that has demonstrated the potential to convey healing benefits to a client.  For many people, however, Reiki is much more than that. It is a complementary and alternative modality for healing that transmits life-force energy (sometimes called prana, chi, ki, or qi)  through the practitioner to the client’s energetic life-force, or biofield.  This energy is then utilized by the client’s own natural abilities to facilitate healing at many levels.

Who can benefit from Reiki?

Reiki is used for pain relief and accelerated healing.
Reiki supports the healing process before and after surgery.
Reiki can be used to reduce and manage effects of anxiety, grief, and trauma.
Reiki has been embraced by hundreds of hospitals as a preferred method of complementary/alternative care, and much has been written concerning the positive effects that Reiki has for cancer patients.
For these and many other situations, Reiki provides a nurturing and supportive presence that is capable of facilitating a person’s healing.

What is a Reiki session like?

During a Reiki session, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table. The practitioner places her hands lightly at various places around the body such as the head, shoulders, abdomen, legs, knees, and feet.
In essence, the biomagnetic fields produced by the practitioner’s hands can induce current flows in the tissues and cells of the client to enhance and stimulate healing. A full session (recommended) usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes; shorter sessions may be available.
